Pirate Ship Dresser

I am a very lucky girl. I love junk and my husband loves getting it for me, going to auctions and loading our van with stuff. I told you, I am a very lucky girl.

Except that from time to time he comes home with something that only my 5 year old gets excited about:

It's going to be a parrot desk Mommy!!!

Best day ever!!!

Or this:
Very sad and plain boring.

So the desk sat in the studio...hm hm hm the basement for a long time, until I did this dresser  for a friend;  the use of a decal on furniture along with watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates show for the I-don't-want-to-know-how many-times with my kids, I had an idea. A Pirate Ship Dresser.

 So here it is now:

Airforce Symbol Dresser

I know a little boy who likes airplanes and snap peas from my garden. I made this dresser for him. His mom said, I like this dresser so much that I believe he will take it with him to college. I don't think I have ever gotten such a nice compliment about my work.

I love the colors and the simple white, red, blue and gold on the hardware.

Table for Tea

There's a story of a playhouse
I haven't told you yet about,
There will be day
I sure will like.
For now,
Here's a table for that playhouse
Table for Tea.

This table/chairs set is somewhat 30+ years old, enjoyed by two generations of little girls and lots and lots of tea parties. It has some respect built into it, like a wise old lady  that is.
Here it is at the beginning, old and worn out:

A neighbor gave it to us when we had our first little girl and told me a story about how he enjoyed lots of tea parties on this little set with his now all grown up little girl.
It was perfect size for it. Here it is today in the playhouse:

Martha's Table

For the love of wood,
I saved a table.

This table is known as Martha's table because it was given to me by my dear neighbor Martha. It had some nail polish spilled all over the top and bottom. It is a beautiful table to begin with so I knew I could try and save it.

Dump'STAR' Table

Do you know what happiness is? Finding a piece of furniture for free.
Do you know who's happy?  Me finding that piece of furniture. And fixing it up . And feeling proud of my work while drinking...coffee.

I call it DumpSTAR table because it was rescued from a trip to the dumpster. I love the neighborhood dumpster day that happens once a year, when everyone throws away what they don't want. Oh it's shopping day for me.(Did I say that out loud?)
This little table was going to the dumpster, but made a turn on the way and showed up at my garage.

It was not very pretty, but look at the legs and it's Thomasville table. Worth saving in my book.

Black is Beautiful

Black can be dreadful and dark.
I like black.
I like it when it's beautiful.
Like this

This buffet was in a very plain and just ok state when I bought it. It was not exciting . It was nothing special. I don't mind simple, but it bothers me when it's not trying and showing it's full potential.

My cat was happy and didn't like me messing with her castle so to speak.

The finish had to go. So did the cat.

"I'm not an Elephant" Chair

There are times when some things just blow my mind away, to clarify here it is:

See the big nail/pin on this chair?
How do you even sit on it?
Oh, wait,  it gets even better:

See the little tinsels hanging from this chair? Or the fabric?
Maybe if it was on an elephant, but this chair,oh right , two chairs, had me going.
So I had to buy them, my husband still doesn't know why I had to save them, and my little 4yr old girl wonders why I always have old chairs in the van?!? Who? Me?
Here they are today:
